Help! Notre Dame vs. Cornell vs. JHU?!?!?!?

Hey guys! I really need some help deciding where I want to go!

So far, I've been accepted to Penn State, Case Western, Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame, Cornell, and Johns Hopkins. My obvious three favorites are Notre Dame, Cornell, and Johns Hopkins.

Up until now, Cornell has always been my "dream" school, I guess. I felt like I had an okay chance of getting in and I was really happy when I did. However, my mom heard about it and said she likes Notre Dame better because "Cornell has too many people in it." My dad also wants me to consider Notre Dame and we are probably going to visit there.

Now I'm really torn as to where I want to go! I am going into engineering and I know Cornell's engineering is the best out of all of them. What do you guys think? Which school do you think I should go to? Which school do you think I would be happiest at? (Notre Dame, Cornell, or Johns Hopkins)

Why are you not considering Carnegie Mellon if you want to do engineering?

Oh yea, forgot to mention, I applied to two Carnegie Mellon schools (Arts and Sciences and Engineering). I got accepted to the Arts and Sciences school, but got waitlisted at engineering. =O But, Cornell’s undergrad. engineering is still higher-ranked than Carnegie Mellon, right?

Easy.
Cornell wins this easily. Second option is CMU.

Notre Dame is overrated.

What do your financial aid packages look like? If Notre Dame is going to result in less college debt, that would probably be the best option.

Haven’t checked my financial aid packages yet, but I’m sure I won’t get much aid. Both my parents work at a local university and together make probably 130k+ a year. And thanks, MrPrince, Cornell is my top choice too. Just not sure if I really want to go there.

With income totaling 130k you should still receive a significant amount in aid…

All three are great schools, but quite different from each other. I strongly suggest that you visit all three–one will feel more right for you than the others. I went to Hopkins and, if I had to do it over again and was faced with the choice you have, I’d go to Hopkins again. But you can be sure that others would choose Cornell or ND. There is no right or wrong. It is subjective.

Other people’s opinions really don’t matter (and many are quite uninformed–basing opinions on “what they have heard.”_. The only thing that matters is how you feel about them.
