HELP!!! NYU or U of MIAMI!?!?!

I must decide by the end of today whether i want to go to the university of miami or NYU. I have put in some very deep thought into this and even made a huge pris and cons list. NYU had the most pros but it also had the most cons. I got into stienhardt for communications at NYU and the business school at miami. Both are great schools but i;m leaning towrad miami because it has smaller classes and a more relaxed atmosphere. BUT NYU had a great study abroad which is very important and obviously the countless internships. I really don't know which one to pick!!!

How is your financial situation at both of these colleges? And what are you most interested in studying?

I’d also add that living in NYU is extremely expensive…

Miami and NYC are totally different places. Study abroad is a small (albeit important) part of your experience, but I would definitely take environment into account in your decision. I don’t know the U of Miami, but NYU has no campus, is in a very busy part of Manhattan, and is huge. Could tend to be more impersonal and anonymous. You already know how to go to school. What you don’t know is how to negotiate the out-of-class times. If the intense hustle and bustle of NYC are fine with you, then go for it. I notice you are from Long Island, so you may very well know NYC well. However, I still think that if the two programs are similar, take the environment into account when you make your decision. Finances also, of course. But many people minimize the effect that environment has on your day to day life in college. NYC is my home, so I love it and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I adore Greenwich Village, and go there often. But I am glad to come home to my quieter part of the City.

I did not get any financial aid form either of the schools. But if you compare the overall costs, its going to be similar considering the commute from miami to new york. I’m interested in studying business and communications. More along th elines of marketing, advertising and PR

What kind of weather are you more comfortable in? Will you miss snow if you go to Miami, or are you happy being warm all the time? Are you interested in attending sporting events at your school? Miami is a D1 school with highly-attended games, I can’t say the same for NYU. Do you prefer a traditional campus feel, or do you not mind being spread throughout NYC? Will you adjust well to not being close to home?

Study abroad is available at both schools, not just NYU. You will also be able to get great internships in Miami, not just NYC.

Have you visited both schools? Does one’s campus make you feel more “at home” then anothers’?

If you want to have fun at college, go to Miami.

I visited both schools. NYU feels sort of cramped and miami feels like living in a resort. Miami is doing some renovations to its residence halls and living of campus is quite popular and cheap. I definately want the typical college experience, sports and all. I definately don’t have a problem going away. NYC is a competely different world from long island so it will feel like going away. I can adjust to both but I coming down to the academics, NYU is definately better but then again… 33% of NYU student are suicidal, which isn’t very appealing

People tend to think that because NYU has no campus that there is therefore no community or unity between students. This may be true on some level but you must remember- yes at first the city may be intimidating but after a while you meet people, know your way around and all of a sudden then city seems much smaller than you originally thought. Miami and New York are totally different. While you can find awesome parties at both schools the social scene is much different. Obviously, Miami has strong sports teams, more of a campus like feel and the beach. On the other hand, you can go to the best clubs in New York and basically do anything you ever wanted- the opportunities are endless. Honestly, you can have a great time and get a great education wherever you go. It’s all up to the individual to make his/her college experience what they want it to be. Good luck!
