Help on a Identifying error in sentence Writing Sat question please!

Local party organizations have discovered that voter turnout is diminished considerably whenever the media projected election results early in the day.

A considerably
B whenever
C projected
D in the day
E no error

The answer is C but I do not know why projected would be incorrrect, any help please thanks!

It’s supposed to be “projects”. The sentence says “whenever the media …” meaning that it didn’t happen just a few times in the past.

Local party organizations have discovered that voter turnout is diminished considerably whenever the media projected election results early in the day.

It’s C because “projects” is consistent with the “…is…” in the sentence.
