Help on admission for UC Berkeley

i was just looking at the admission site for uc berkeley and the requirements just for eligibility scared me to death. can someone confirm that for minimun admission requirements, you must take the english sat II, math sat II, and a third satII of choice? the english satII sounds a bit unfair.--"Three SAT II: Subject Tests, including Writing, Mathematics Level 1 or 2, and one test in one of the following areas: English literature, foreign language, science, or social studies. "--- what if people like me, who are horrible at english, does flunk the test? origionally i wasnt even planning to take the damn test, now i see i have no choice.

... btw u must have a 3.4 gpa, and if u want "Admission by Examination Alone: You must earn a composite score of 31 or higher on the ACT or a total score on the SAT I of at least 1400. Your total score on the three SAT II: Subject Tests must be at least 1850, with a minimum score of 530 on each test. " sounds harsh doesnt it? its not even a school like Havard!

basically im just wondering whether i should even apply considering i know ill f*** up anything that involves an english exam

its just the requirements. even if they didn't impose them, every student who is accepted would have stats comparable if not better than that. If you are concerned about the requirements (which are minimums...accepted people have all higher than that) then maybe you should look for a less selective school.

It's Berkeley... If you have a score of 530 on a SAT II, don't even think of applying to Berkeley...

UC is a huge reach for OOS students. Only 5% get in, and those that do are top students with great scores [ 2300 SAT] as well as other things to contribute to the student population. UC berkeley is like UT austin- only students that score in the top 4-10% of GPA have a chance- and that's for Calif residents.

English SAT II? I think it requires the SAT Reasoning Test which includes Math, Reading, and Writing, and two more SAT IIs...correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know from where you got this.

And menloparkmom: I think the admit rate for OOS students is around 21% last I checked. That could be one or two years old though. I think you are thinking about the percentage of OOS students in the undergraduate population, which is 10%. No need to scare our fellow OOS applicant here. :)

i strongly believe all UCs require only 2 sat2s....and average sat scores are lilke 2050~2100 i think...

test hater:

you are looking at old data. The UCs now only require TWO subject tests of your choice, as long as they are in different disciplines (can't submit physics and chem). But, if applying to Engineering, Math 2 is strongly recommended.

If your grades are even borderline to the minimum for OOS, don't waste your money on the app fee. Only hooked students get accepted with a 3.5 in-state, and those are extremely rare. In our competitive HS last year, the lowest gpa accepted to Cal was a ~3.8 uw.

btw: the UCs are mighty expensive for OOS -- $42k/yr.

42k???????? that expensive? anyone give a acceptance rate of OOS of UCB last year?

i have a high gpa (98.--), and im ranked top 10%, if not top 10, its my test scores that suck, and im afraid that will hurt me badly. in terms of extracurriculars, i think i have a good shot.. not to brag
