~*~Help On Berkeley Appeal Fall 2010~*~

I was rejected as a Psychology Transfer yesterday by Cal, but I have been accepted to all the other UC's.

I live in Los Angeles, and UCLA has always been my dream school. Fortunately, I was accepted.

The thing is... over these past two months, I have really fallen in love with the idea of going to Cal, and was mildly crushed after being rejected from there yesterday!

What drew me to Cal included the change of environment compared to Los Angeles, the dorm-life I would experience, as well as the prestige and the fact that it's better for Psychology.

*Attending UCLA, I would probably seek out an apartment rather than a dorm since i've lived in Los Angeles all my life. Would this mean I wouldn't be able to experience the same college lifestyle I would have experienced living in a dorm at Cal?

Also, I may be accepted into a Paid Internship Scholarship Program at UC Berkeley for Neuroscience Lab Research this Summer, which is given to 1st Generation College Students.

*My second question is - If I were to get accepted into this internship program would this be grounds for an Appeal to Cal? Since i'd be living there over summer and participating with their neuroscience researchers? I'd also be able to get a kick-ass letter of recommendation from my Physio-Psych professor at my CCC.

Any thoughts would be great!!!

GPA: ~3.75
Major: Psychology
Pre-Req's: Done
IGETC: Certified
Essays: 8/10.
E.C.: AGS, PTK, Honors Program, Deans List, President Scholars List, Academic Decathlon (in HS), Worked in HS, Volunteered A Bit, 1st Generation, Lots of AP's in HS, and most likely a Paid Internship Program at UC Berkeley this Summer in Neuroscience.

dont appeal, cal wont even read your appeal…just go to ucla…

Thanks for the advice, Spiderman.

Anyone else? Even if your advice is “JUST GO TO UCLA”, i’d really appreciate it!

I think you should call first and see what their reason was for rejecting you. Good luck though!

I actually called and they said it couldn’t be discussed over the phone and to appeal if I want.

Anyone have similar experience when calling?

What?? then HOW are you supposed to know what kind of evidence you need for your appeal? that’s lame. Well, i say go for it, the WORST thing that can happen is they can say no, but you’ll always wonder what the outcome would have been if you don’t try (I would any way).

Honestly, when they say compelling new evidence, I think it would mean something like a grade change for a course that would have serious impact on your decision i.e. major prereq or something that would alter your gpa significantly. New ECs (unless it is a major award etc.) won’t be much of a help for appeals. But no one can stop you from appealing so do what you want/need to do.

both UCLA and Berkeley are prestigious schools! Be happy that you got into UCLA!

My five second rant

one year ago dude…

i know. 10 char

Pinoiako916 just posts this inane **** everywhere.

What im trying to say is that prestige is overrated. It does not matter where you got your undergraduate degree from. All that grad schools care about are you GPA, Test scores, Letters of recommendation, ec’s, and research experience.
