So I finished my first semester of community college and I got a 88% in Financial Accounting. I liked it a lot and it was good to learn about it. So I have considered declaring my major into the business area. Which business degree is the best to major in and what would be a good minor for a business degree? I am also taking Managerial Accounting in Spring 2014. Can someone give me some info about it. And also what colleges should I consider transferring to?

I just finished my first semester as an accounting major at my university… i ended up with a 4.0 in financial accounting and really liked it. I think if you really like business you should major in accounting and minor in finance. Accounting is probably one of the most versatile majors that you can do, having knowledge in book keeping and also an idea on numbers can really help a company out and you can get a job in almost any position. I suggest finance as a minor because then you are opening up a whole new world like banking for example.

People get really focussed on their major as the source of all future success. The reality is that it’s your work experience and grades that will factor more in being selected for interview than your major. A major in a business field that you enjoy and get good grades in is better than something you feel would be more profitable in the long run but affects your GPA. Feel free to try a range of classes in different business areas. Even if you decide not to major in them, it’ll give you a good grounding in what your future colleagues contribute to a business.

Major is only key in a field like accounting where you’re working towards professional credentials. If in doubt, keep your options open as long as possible.
