I really need help with something. So I sent in my application to UT on December 15, and the week before, I told my counselor to send in my transcript and secondary school report. However, I completely forgot to send in my SAT scores until the 18th, after the deadline.

Then, in early January I checked my application status and it said that my hs rank and transcript were not received, as well as my SAT score. I emailed my regional counselor, and she basically said that because my SAT score was received late, my application will be considered on a space-available basis. Now, I don't know if it is she who will determine the eligibility of this application, or some random computer, but my question is this:

How do I fix this situation? UT is my back-up school, and if I don't get into my top choices I planned on going there. But now my application, I think, is closed...

Also, how does the space-available basis work? Will there be a situation in which there is no space, so all space-available apps will be automatically denied?

UT was not a safety for your rank. Though your test scores were outstanding, 51/189 rank for UT is NOT your backup. You’d be lucky to even get into UT.

No… UT was my safety. I sent in a glowing rec letter to explain my extenuating circumstances for my rank, and my test scores were much higher than UT’s mean range.

no lol, seriously UT is a high reach, you would be VERY lucky for your rank. Rank is the main factor to them far superseding test scores no matter how extenuating the circumstances might be, a lot of the time they don’t even read recs, just the essays. I’m sorry if that sounds mean but that’s just how they are :/

On the wikipedia page for UT it states quite clearly the acceptance rate for non-top-10 is about 4%. I hope your SAT scores/EC’s were good I only know one person that got in from outside the rule and he was amazing at hockey, and he had his own band that was doing quite well locally.
