From Out of State and really want to go to school on Florida.
Dont know much about them thogh when it comes to prestige and quality of education.
not sure what I plan on majoring though, so I guess I would start undeclared with a leniency towards Business..

Need help on which are the best schools in Florida. Which have the best reputation and prestige. and how hard it is to get in.

Stats:

GPA: 3.65
SAT: 1950
Good EC's
Lots of Community Service
Great Letters of Reccomendation

Im from FLorida, and the generally percieved notion is
UM and UF are about the same prestige wise.
they are the two best schools in Florida.
UF is the big state school and Miami is a smaller private school.
while prestige is about equal in Florida for both of these, I would say, Quality in Education is better at UM as classes are much more personalized.
That is biased though as I attend UM however as to prestige they are about the same.

Following UF and UM you have FSU trailing by a big gap.

Those are the three big and best regarded schools in Florida.

other well regarded schools trailing behind FSU are UCF in Orlando and USF in Tampa.

For entry into UF you will (likely) need over a 4.0 GPA on UF's weighted scale...look at UF's web site for details on how to compute this. You will also need to have 5 or more AP classes for a good chance of admission. Your SAT looks good, but it is only weighted 10% or so and will not overcome a low GPA or lack of difficult courses in your schedule. Good luck.

Florida State accepted applicants recently showed:

The middle 50% of the Fall 2008 accepted freshman class is: 3.7-4.2 GPA; 1190-1330 SAT (Critical Reading plus Math); 26-29 ACT (see: About FSU's Students )

The whole "prestige" debate is really pointless. It's all a matter of opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

According to your stats, you would be at the lower end of the admitted middle 50% at FSU. Since you might be leaning toward business, I'll post the 2008 business rankings according to USnews.

27 -University of Florida

48- Florida State University

71- University of Miami

When it comes to business schools, UF and FSU are both in top 50, and then you have UM trailing by a big gap. Take that for what its worth.

UF in Gainesville

UM (about the same prestige-wise, MUCH more expensive, but better location)

FSU - Tallahassee

UCF - Orlando

USF - Tampa

I go to UF for my MBA and Warrington school of business at UF school kicks a$$. Realistically though, outside of the SouthEast, i don't think people separate UF from FSU. I do agree with the above ranking though

for undergrad:
UF equals Miami (the best the state has to offer)
FSU= close behind (the best in some areas, ut not quite UF overall)
USF= VERY up and coming
UCF= Solid

In a class of its' own:
New College- hardest school in FL to get into, but VERY small and liberal.
