help on math problems

Hey guys,

I need help on solving these math problems in one of the practice tests

"If t is a number greater than one then t^2 is how many times greater than t"
The answer was 2.

My incorrect solution:
I substituted 3 for t. Thus t^2=9. 9 is 3x greater than 3. Thus my answer was "t".Why was my answer wrong???

for the problems that gives a table with a list x and y values and asks you to find the function equation, what is the fastest way to solve the problem?

I usually just guess and check each of the choices until I find the equation that works but doing so takes a long time.

Thanks for all your help!

I would say the answer to 1. is t as you have written the question. Maybe the book is wrong?

Are the problems with the table usually linear equations?

“How many times greater” means you’re dividing the greater number by the smaller number so t^2/t = t
