Help on raising ACT English score?

I have a 28 in the english section on the ACT which is bringing down my composite to a 31, I've read 36 ACT on barrons but it didn't help too much, is there a better book or tips for raising my score?

Well, if you think the book that you are using is too easy you can always try this one:
[Amazon.com: Gruber’s Complete ACT Guide 2013, 3E (9781402273018): Gary Gruber: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Grubers-Complete-ACT-Guide-2013/dp/1402273010)

Gruber’s books have been the most difficult books across the board. When I was going through the whirlwind I ended up performing 2-4 points below my actual score on many of the tests. IF you do not already know the ACT cooperation themselves puts otu a book that will be the most accurate representation of the tests:
[The Real ACT (CD) 3rd Edition (Real Act Prep Guide): Inc. ACT: 9780768934403: Amazon.com: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Real-ACT-3rd-Prep-Guide/dp/0768934400/ie=UTF8&qid=1376263669&sr=1-1&keywords=the+real+act#)

I went from a 23 to a 35 by taking lots of practice tests and understanding the justification for the answer in the real ACT. Also read the barrons english + reading book (not sure how much it helped). reading lots of stephen king and paying attention to the way he uses his clauses I think helped the most, but havent heard of anyone else doing this. I think the most tried and true is get the big real ACT book, take all the practice tests and understand every answer, also helps for timing

I go from -45 to 33 on ACT using my intellect. Don’t be a choob, stay in school!

that’s amazing and congrats! how long did you take between the tests? how many times did you take it?
