Same I would like to know also. Im a math person so i get 800 M every time i take practice and I also got 800 on the real SAT. But my critical reading score is at 560 and I seriously want a tip to raise my score. By the way my writing was at 610 so i also want to raise my writing although my priority is to raise the CR score

I used to be just like that too. But for some reason reading the passages and answering the questions clicked, and I came from a 570 PSAT to a 670 March SAT. What works for me is reading the passage through really quickly, and understanding the whole thing - then checking back and forth from questions to line reading.

Although, a lot of people would tell you this isn't good, you're just going to get confused, and run out of time. Which I guess makes sense, but for me - I was able to finish all the questions and even had a good 5minutes to go back and reread/check my answers to the passages.

After talking to some people, I found out that a lot of people the 'reading passages/verbal section' just clicked for people after doing a bunch. Sit down and do a couple passages a day, and hopefully you'll figure something out.

Also, make sure your mind NEVER wanders. When you're reading the passages, STAY FOCUSED. If you lose concentration you end up confused and having to reread most of it. Then when trying to answer the questions you can get even more confused.

Hope this helps anyone, just my 2cents.

i actually disagree. all the practice in the world for me wouldn't do anything to my grammar scores. get a book that points out all the common errors the SAT tests...I used Kaplan & it worked for me, but I don't know if it's the best book.

For the record, I went from missing about 9 in the CB book to 3-4.

I have a completely different problem. My writing was good, but it was way lower than critical reading and math. I just don't get it. I got an 80 on the PSAT writing. Why did my score drop 90 points for the SAT. Ahhhhh!!

Thanks for all the advice!! So practice in CR would raise scores but what about grammar? Is it possible to raise the writing score simply from practicing or would you need to take a class?

The problem is in high school you don't learn grammer, for AP English classes and such the point is to refine you english skills.
For CR-read the questions and refer to the selected text, it isn't necessary to read the passage and then go back! Also inferences are always clearly stated in the passages, and never choose an extreme answer choice (ie: always, never, etc.)
For writing-this used to be my worst section-my verbalwas always so much better. I just read carefully and make sure everything matches up. It really helps reading out loud but if you do that in the testing center you may get some odd glances your way ;)
gl hf!

Yeah, my CR seems to be good, math OK (for me, anyway), but my writing is rather abysmal and depressing.
