help on these course selections

Just came back from the orientation, and son registererd for the following courses, which I need your comments. Keep in mind that, all the purposes are to get into Kelly in Sophomore. Thank you very much in advance.

Geol-G 141: Earthquakes and Volcanoes
Ealc- C 101: ELEMENTARY CHINESE
Math-M119: Brief Survey of Calculus I
BUS-K201:The Computer in Business
BUS-C104:Business Presentations

Total 16 credits.

Should he drop Ealc- C 101 ? it has class everyday, I worry it is time consuming. if he drops before school starts, will it be counted for W (withdraw) ?

also, will Kelly care about the course load ? Five courses look better than four, or they are the same.

Sounds tough but fairly manageable. I don’t know anything about the Chinese course so hopefully someone else can help you with that, but as far as Kelley classes, it’s not an easy schedule but I’m sure your son can handle it. The only thing to be wary of is that k201 and c104 both will take up a LOT of time outside of class, so I’m not a fan of taking those together. Oh and one other bit of advice. He shouldn’t take calculus lightly because it is just a brief survey. Many people struggle with that class (though I avoided it by coming in with calc credit) and it’s something to keep an eye out for.

If he drops Chinese prior to classes starting it will not count as a W.

DS took Earthquakes and Volcanos–easy class according to DS. (sorry, he’s not around, or I would ask him more about it.)

Does he have any experience with Chinese? New language classes can be challenging–particularly Chinese.

rrah, thank you. I am a little worried about Chinese, we will think about it seriously.

theoldguitarist, if we move C104 to spring semester, son will have the plan:

Math-M119, BUS-K201 for fall semester,
BUS-C104 and Math-M118 for spring,

will these 4 courses be enough to meet the admission requirement from UD ? of course, we will choose some “easy” courses to get total 26 credits. thank you.

bthomp will know the answer to this as he is a great source regarding Kelley requirements, but it seems to me that I’ve read here many times that accounting is a Kelley requirement for admission.
