I looked and looked and can't figure out why these sentences are marked with the error. The error is one word/statement in brackets.

sentence 1
Fourteen years (after) the Galileo space probe was launched from the space shuttle Atlantis, the mission was purposely ended (when) the Galileo (disintegrates)(in the dense) atmosphere of the planet Jupiter.

sentence 2
Many professional athletes (are) motivated by either personal pride (and) love of their sport, but (some seem) interested ( only in money).

So in sentence 1 I thought (disintegrates) should be disintegrated. That was wrong. According to the book it is (in the dense). Can someone explain that please?

Sentence 2; with the word "either" I went with (and). That was incorrect. It is (some seem) Why is (and) correct and (some seem) incorrect? How should the sentence read?

This is why you should study from the BB.
You’re correct for both of the questions, in the context of the SAT atleast. The book/resource you are using has incorrect answers.

It is hard to imagine that any of the contemporary test guides (e.g. CB, Princeton Review, McGraw Hill) would get either of the questions as wrong as your post indicates. You must be misreading the answer key, or this is a late-in-the-year April Fool’s joke.

I agree with your answers OP, i don’t see how the answers stated by the book makes either sentence correct. As the above poster said stick to the widely accepted SAT prep books.

So the book I have is the college board The official SAT Study guide SAT Practice test 4 section 7 question 12 and 14. So I took this course and they ripped out the answer keys from the books they gave us. I had to call (and with great difficulty) to get the answer keys once the class ended. The answer key does not match the page numbers. I have also had problems with this book having wrong answers as others have noted here. I think it is time to throw the book away and give an poor review of the class I took since I struggled to get the answer keys that they ripped out of my book

Thank you so much. I was really beginning to question myself. I have seen a number of problems with the answer keys and this book. Perhaps it is the version I have. Time to throw this one away and use another. Thanks again.
