Help on where to transfer!

I will be receiving my AA at the end of may and am going to transfer for the Fall 10' Semester.
I have heard from 3 schools and am still waiting on some other's but needed advice on where i should transfer and where would be the place to be.

I have been accepted to

Northeastern - Accounting
St. Johns (NY) - Accounting
Umass Amherst - Accounting

I'm Still waiting on
Babson - Accounting
Bentley -Accounting
Rollins - Accounting
UF -Accounting
BU - Accounting

I think that I will be getting responses from the other schools shortly because of how early i applied. If anyone could advice me on the best school to go to!?

I also have direct admissions to UCF - Accounting program, but its not really one of my top choices

First off, the schools here can be separated into two groups. Northeastern, Bentley, and UF are in Group 1, all other schools are in Group 2. The Group 1 schools are significantly better at getting you a job than the Group 2 schools. The schools you should therefore be considering are UF, Bentley, and Northeastern.

Each of these has their pros and cons. At the end of the day, it really depends where you want to work. If you want to work in New England, particularly Boston, pick Northeastern. If you want to work in the New York area, pick Bentley. If you want to work anywhere else, particularly the Deep South, then choose UF.

One caveat here. If Northeastern requires a reply before the other schools will tell you your status, then go there. It’s better to take the apple in the hand than the two on the tree. If you’re curious where this opinion comes from by the way, my dad’s a business school professor who has taught at Cornell and Dartmouth; this is his opinion. Hope you make a good choice.

I have read that Isenberg at umass amherst has one of the top accounting programs, but getting a job is one of my top concerns in terms of picking a school. I wanted to work in the northeastern region(NY/Boston). Is going to a school with a better accounting program going to help me in getting a job after i graduate? I also liked northeastern a lot because of the co-op program that they have and the opportunity to gain experience while in school.

My top concern is getting a Job after i graduate though because I know of the difficulty of getting a job after you graduate.

Thanks for the reply tsakashvili.

If you absolutely want a job in the Northeast, then you should probably go to Northeastern. They’re better at getting you a job in Boston than Bentley is at getting you a job in either Boston or New York. U Mass Amherst’s issue job wise is that they’re not in a major city. The fact that Northeastern is in Boston makes it much easier to do interviews and get internships. It also means that more companies will come to recruit on campus, because they like to hire local talent. Ultimately it’s your choice, but it’s something you should consider. If it’s not to late, you might also want to apply to CUNY Zicklin. If you want to work in New York, they’re pretty good at getting you a job.

{nvm i read some of your posts}

Bentley has the best reputation with the big 4 accounting firms, umass amherst is wayyy cheaper but less noted in the business world, northeastern you will have the best location and probably most internship ops

what’s more important in the long run the reputation or the work experience?

from what i have read it seems reputation and networking is the greatest factor. all of the kids applying to the big 4 are going to have internship experience in accounting, it will come down to grades and connections.

did you send HS grades or SAT’s? i applied to a few similar schools and did not send them

I didnt have to send my SAT’s to northeastern but i sent my HS grades…Whatever the requirements for the schools…most required both though

I just heard back from Bentley and i was accepted to their accounting program.

I also heard back from Northeastern Financial Aid. Is the coop program they have worth 15 K a year in loans?
