Hi All!
I need some help with my situation. I am 23 and have a BA in Neuroscience, but decided halfway through my degree that I wanted to go into MT. I couldn't transfer schools (credits wouldn't transfer) or switch majors. But I did minor in music. I have been an instrumentalist since I was 12 and have been taking voice for the past 3 years. I am currently rehearsing for my first community theater musical. I'm auditioning whenever I can so I can build up my resume.
I would like to get a degree in MT but I don't want to go back to get another Bachelor's and I obviously don't think it's smart to just move to NYC and audition for shows. I've been looking at Master's programs like at NYU Steinhardt (because I figure it's more about the audition than what my first degree was in) and maybe two year conservatory programs (like AMDA).
Any suggestions, opinions, advice or ideas?I could really use it!

A two year MT conservatory like Circle in the Square Theater School or CAP21 would be a good route to take…or else enrolling in quality classes at various vocal, acting, and dance studios.

I think you could just take lessons and classes rather than a degree. Participating in shows is the best way to learn, anyway.

I don’t agree with ifoundalaska that participating in shows is the BEST way to learn. I think training is essential. Being in shows is beneficial in the application of skills and taking on a role, etc. Both being in shows and training are important. but productions should never be the only preparation. Training is needed.
