Help or Advice needed

Hello. I'm a first year who is political philosophy major here at Syracuse. I'm looking to transfer after sophmore year. It sounds bad but I did not care at all academically during high school but I want to work to change my life around. Here at my stats:

Hs gpa: 3.05 UW (had APS, honors, college courses)
Sat 1:1980
Sat II: 2c-700 Us History-580
Ecs: Volunteered at hospital contributing approximately 600 hours
I was also part of youth leadership team at the hospital.
Wrote for school newspaper and was assistant sports editor
Peer counseling officer and member for two years
Make a Wish officer and was part of the club three years.
Did track for a while as well.
Class of 06 member for three years.
Awards: President's Volunteer Service Award: Gold Level
Some various scholarships here and there.

College Gpa: 3.79
Ecs Currently: writing for the newspaper and volunteer at Hospital
Awards: Dean List for Fall 06

My question is what can I do to bolster my app for next year? I know I can improve my gpa but what else can I do? I'm thinking of helping a professor with research and it is something I'm interested in, but it does not pertain to my major. I would be doing history research but I am interested in maybe doing history as a potential double major. I am looking at transferring to hopefully..and I really mean hopefully: Tufts, Penn, Columbia, Brown, Cal, NYU, Cal, U of C. Do I have a chance at all for these schools? I failed to mention that I am a California resident. I'm willing to do whatever it takes. Any other schools that might fit my mold? Thanks!

I think you have a chance. Get to know two professors well enough to get super-strong recommendations. The research sounds like a good idea to me. I admit I don't really know what Political Philosophy is as a major, but wouldn't history research be seen as very closely related?

Most people who transfer had a bad or at least mediocre HS transcript, including myself, so don't stress out too much. Yours especially isn't too terrible other than the GPA your SAT score is decent and ECs are pretty good.

bumping my thread

Anybody else? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
