Help out a Sophomore Looking at UPENN

I'm an Asian male SOPHOMORE in a fairly affluent northeastern suburban neighborhood. I'm not sure which college I want to get into, but HYPS, Wharton, Sloan, Stern, UChicago, are a few of the schools I have been looking at.

Here are my stats:

GPA:
Freshman year: 3.8
Sophomore: 4.2

Ranking: Top 10% in a class of 300+

Classes Taken: Have taken the highest available classes for both freshman and sophomore years with the exception of math in which I am one year ahead and take classes with juniors. Self-studied for AP WORLD HIST and took AP STAT as an elective during sophomore year. Honors choir both freshman and sophomore years.

Next Year's classes: AP Bio, Honors choir, APUSH, AP LANG, AP CALC BC, Honors Physics, Spanish IV honors, AP ECON, and will self-study for AP ENVIRO and PSYCH.

PSAT: 232 (reminder: I am a sophomore, so I will be taking PSAT again)
SAT: 790 CR, 760 M, 740 WR (Will Retake)

School EC’s: Class President, Member of the Principal’s Cabinet, Founder and President of Sierra Student Coalition, Varsity Debate Team, Varsity Wrestling, One Acts Festival, President of Math Club (Varsity), President of Tutoring Club

Community Service: about 100 hours at Nature Center
About 50 hours tutoring small children in an after school program

Honors: AMC-12: 109.5, School Winner, 7th in Stat
3rd place in Seton Hall math competition
2nd place in chapter MathCounts competition
Honorable mention by the National Science Teachers Association for a research project I did on nanotechnology.
Overall Highest Scoring Sophomore of Math Club
1st place in County Debate League
2 Varsity Letters for wrestling and 1 for Math

So there it is. If it counts for anything, I enjoy all of my EC's and am a somewhat adamant environmentalist.

Advice/comments on my chances would be appreciated.

wow
you make sophomores like me feel bad

yeah you certainly dominate me

I wouldn't retake the SATs if I were you. Your scores are high enough. Just a suggestion.

As a parent, I want to advise you, baconchedda, to SLOW DOWN. Your PSATs are stratospherically high, your ECs are impressive, and you are taking one of the most rigorous curricula available. While your grades are not stellar, you are attending a top high school that should count for something.

You are applying to all the top schools and should be easily admitted to a few of them, at least. Just remember, Asians are competing against other Asians, whether the Adcoms admit it or not...........

One final piece of advice, don't choose a popular major when you begin the application process in appx. 18 months. Find something somewhat esoteric that interests you as a prospective major; it will distinguish you!

Good luck!

i would take the SAT's again, because judging by your PSAT score and the fact that you are a sophmore, you have a good shot at increasing and getting into the 2300's.
Your resume looks great, just keep it up.

I hate you....

P.S.-I am a sophmore.

I dont see how his grades aren't stellar. o_o
He has a 4.0 cumulative GPA in the toughest courseload at a tough school.

Haha makes me look bad too..

is it a 4.0 weighted or unweighted? still thats pretty darn impressive, but try to focus on something specific you like, and yea, take some time and enjoy your high school years, you have another year before you have to start worrying, which you have no reason to

MegaVortex7........................baconchedda asked for everyone's opinion. CC is not a forum for stretching the truth and a 3.8 is excellent----not stellar. Moreover, we don't know how many credits baconchedda undertook each year and which proportion of the classes were weighted. It is presumptious to infer that the cumulative GPA is a 4.0........ Again, for any sophomore baconchedda should be proud and optimistic about the future!

Well, the GPA system at my school is kinda weird so I guess I can say it's somewhat weighted.

Also, I'm Asian and I happen to like math and science. Not much I can do there.

PS-Any recommendations on which colleges I should start looking at? My guidance counselor tells me Hamilton or Colgate would be a perfect fit for me, but I'm more interested in the colleges I mentioned in my original post.

pshhhh I don't know what you're shooting at but I'd start visiting some Ivies..
