Help Pick/Find Matches for HYPSM Reacher

So I have done some research on schools and have come up with a list of mostly top schools I want to apply to. However, I need some help coming up with a couple matches that I would fit in at. Here is a little background:

SAT- 2200 (800 m, 720 w, 680 cr) -retaking saturday to improve, cr hopefully over 700
SAT IIs- 780 math II, 780 chem, 730 ush, 710 lit
GPA- 4.0 uw, 4.8 w
Rank- 1/ over 500 (Very competitive public school with 4 ivy this year, 2 stanford, 4 duke)
APs- 5 calc bc, 4 lang/comp, pending apush and chem
Senior year- stats, bio, comp sci, lit, gov (all ap) and newspaper (full load)
Wealthy white male from AZ

EC-
Interact- VP next year, officer this year
Science Bowl- prez next year, vp this year
Newspaper- writer and editor
Band- 9, 10
NHS
Spanish Honor Society
JV Tennis- 10, 11 (Varsity owns and won a very competitive state both years. I played a couple varsity double matches)

Awards-
Probably National Merit
2nd state essay contest
3rd local leadership competition
B of A Student leader paid summer program but did not accept (4 chosen from phoenix area)

Summers-
Volunteer abroad in hospital for 5wks (will write about the passion for med stuff it gave me- I actually did stuff and was essentially an employee working in their lab/junior nurse)
Medical research through competitive program in NYC for 9wks this summer

I really like doing medical research and I have a passion for it but do not really want to become a doctor. I am really interested in business too. Then I also like the humanities so I do not want a really scientific school. Of course I would also like a school that has good study abroad options. Right now this is my list of somewhat in order schools.

Stanford
MIT
Yale
UChicago
Brown
JHU
Columbia
Harvard
Wesleyan- legacy
ASU, Barrett honors college - In State Safety

What are your thoughts? As you can see I have a lot of reaches. Any ideas for good matches/other schools in general that fit what I am interested in? Which one should I ED at?

bump
I will chance back if that helps (give me your link)

You’re an average (HYPSM) student with the exception of being from Arizona. Your EC’s are rather bland, and you don’t exactly stick out. You’ll maybe get into one or two of these schools, but don’t expect a flood of acceptances with how you’re selling yourself.

Also- match at BC, GW, NYU Stern if business is your drift. Stern might be a tad reach. ED to the one you would die to go to.

I tend to agree with you about my ec’s. I am hoping I can sell myself as a passionate science student that combines my science interests with my volunteer experience. I like to think I can write good essays.

You should get into one or more of the schools that you have listed, but it is certainly possible that you won’t get into any - that’s just the name of the game. But, I would suggest schools like UVA, UNC-CH, Vandy, Wake Forest, Boston College, …a lot of these schools are more of a legitimate match and won’t see many applicants from Arizona. And, they’re all great schools.

Your EC’s are average; all the colleges you listed besides the last two are reaches, but you might get into a couple. You might try for UC Berkeley- even though it’s out of state (it is for me too). If you’re a dedicated science student, Caltech, Harvey Mudd? But Caltech would be a reach too.

Thanks for the chances and tips.

I’m thinking about berkeley but I’m kindof worried about their financial situation. UVA, Vandy, and GW sound interesting. I like the sciences but I also enjoy the other subjects which is the downfall of caltech and harvey mudd.

Are my ec’s really that bland if you factor in my summers? Interact at my schools also raises thousands of dollars for water purification in africa and I have spent 100s of hours volunteering through the club. Does that make it any less bland? I think if anything they will make for interesting essays.

Go for 2300+ and your chances increase a fair amount.

That NYU summer program is nice. But that’s just the thing. It’s just for the summer. How can you truly be passionate about science research if the only time you give it is 9 weeks out if the year. Does that make sense? You’ll need to figure out a way to articulate this passion so that it doesn’t seem bland.

Science is a competitive field with intel, lab research, and olympiad kids. Otherwise, your grades are good and whatnot, but what is unique? If you can answer that I say you have a chance to get into a few of them.

Chance me and you can read about my science research!
