hey everyone, i'm a freshman at UofM, and I am looking for some ideas on a possible major. I really want/need to graduate in three years ($$), so that's why I'm trying to get an idea now to maximize my time. Anyway, I'm 100% set on going to law school to be a lawyer. I don't have a particular passion academically that I want to pursue... I just know I don't want to pursue a math/science related field, english lit, or political science. My two main priorities are being able to earn a high gpa (while maintaining a job to pay for school) to help with law school admissions, and to have some level of enjoyment in a major that won't be frowned upon. If this helps, I'm a pretty balanced student in terms of talent levels,

Any ideas? Is communications universally disrespected? Philosophy? Anything?

i definitely suggest taking a class or two in philosophy to see if you like it and if it comports with your mode of thinking
it seems like you're a perfect fit for philosophy. also many people i have talked to who went to college a long time ago say that their philosophy classes were the classes that meant the most to them and had the greatest impact on them. also umich is ranked #4 in the nation in philosophy, ahead of Yale, Harvard, Stanford, UChicago, etc.
philosophy is also great preparation for law school; of all majors, philosophy majors on average do best on LSAT
i'm not saying you should major in philosophy, i just strongly recommend that you take a class in either Ethics, Logic, Epistemology, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Religion, Philosophy of Science, etc, and see whether or not you fall in love with it
good luck
