HELP! "Plagiarizing" my own essays

Is it okay to "plagiarize" my own content in my college essays?

By that, I mean, can I recycle some phrases/sentences from my own writing?

The writing which I want to reuse is published widely online (easily Google search-able), but it has my full legal name included as well. So if my essay comes up highlighted with lots of plagiarized content, and if the adcoms click on the pages that it matches up to, they'll see that I just recycled some phrases from my own writing.

Is this considered plagiarism?

Websters Dictionary def. of plagiarism:

Definition of PLAGIARIZE
transitive verb
: to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own : use (another’s production) without crediting the source
intransitive verb
: to commit literary theft : present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source

So I do not think so. But, what an interesting thought, and I wonder if you could spin this dilemma into an interesting (and humerous) essay!

I don’t see why that’s a problem. It’s your writing. And it’s kind of neat that you can tie your old writing into a personal statement.

In your case I think that it is perfectly fine because you have your name attached to it, but I have a similar problem. The writing that I have that can be seen with a quick google search and in my case does not have my name attached to it. It simply has the name of an organization I am associated with. Would it be okay to use some of this writing (that was originally mine), or will colleges think I just copied it from the organization I was with?
