Hey everyone, I'm a freshman and I need some serious help planning out the courses for my winter quarter.

Right now I'm taking math 3a, neuroscience 10, and LA GE Cluster...now the LA GE Cluster satisfies 2 course requirements in the fondations of scoiety and culture - historical analysis and socal analysis - and 1 course in the foundations of arts and humanities - literary and cultural analysis.

I was pre-med (like most others), but may pursue business...if that helps with what courses I should take.

Now I know if I want to graduate in 4 years, I'll be having to take 4 classes each quarter from now on...

Can anyone help me plan my winter schedule out, maybe fulfilling GE's, or taking meaningful classes (as in not wasting any courses)...

Although the LA cluster satisfies those different areas, it counts for only one.

You don't have to take 4 classes per quarter for the next few years unless you're pursuing an additional major or something similar.

If you're pursuing Business-(Economics), you'd take Econ 1 or 2. Perhaps test the waters there and halt the Math 3B because you'd need 31A and 31B for the business-economics major. If you're pre-med, your chemistry, math, biology, and physics sequences would be fine. If you want to do Biz-Econ and a Pre-Med path, you'd need to take the 31A and 31B. I think one of the Econ's (1 or 2 or both) satisfies social analysis. Not sure. Regardless, you don't need to immediately commit to its path but can, at least, test it out. Also, it looks like you haven't taken any chemistry or biology. You can take LS or Chem something to satisfy life sciences (demo) GE and also a physical sciences (w/o lab) GE.

I think you should take these courses:
Chemistry 14A
LS 1 and/or Easy GE
Econ 1 or Econ 2

This way, you'd knock out a physical sciences and/or life sciences GE(s) and you'd taste the econ major while also waiting to take whatever math course if you decide to pursue biz-econ. Good luck! :)

If you're not continuing the LA cluster, you only get GE credit for one of 3 stated(depends on the professor/registrar)
Econ doesn't fulfill a GE. I get Econ 2 credit, but it doesn't count for anything

im continueing the GE cluster because it fulfills a lot of requirements

emmeline, doesnt my neuroscience GE cover the science requirements? i really do not want to take chem..there has to be another way to knock out scence...

Neuroscience 10 covers a life science GE requirement. However, if you're going the pre-med or biology route, you won't need to worry about that since you'd take LS 1-2-3-4 and satisfy those requirements. If you want to be a pre-med, you must take at least 14ABCD, 14BLCL, and some more.

So, if science isn't your thing, stick to business and take 31A next quarter with Econ and GE or something similar.

In your case, you've taken NS 10 which covers LS without lab/demo. You still need the other 3 classes! Go to http://www.registrar.ucla.edu and click on "GE Classes" or something similar on the left side. Search for specific GEs for Winter 2008 for sciences or whichever GE you plan on taking. Otherwise, shoot for 31A and Econ 1 or 2 for winter quarter and 1-2 GEs.
