help - planning USC visit

D wants to visit USC. She heard from a friend of a friend USC has an “awesome” undergrad J program. We live in the northwest - will be flying into LAX on a Sunday inorder to attend a Monday morning info session and campus tour. I have us booked at a Hilton about 3 miles from campus. The info session and campus tour is 9am to noon. Our flight doesn’t leave LAX until 5:30pm. After the official tour what should we do to give D more insight into USC? Thanks in advance for the help.

Walk around campus, especially at Annenberg, and talk with students, read the bulletin boards to see what's happening. You could also check out the campus calendar to see if there are any interesting pertinent student events that you could attend that afternoon. Also, leave sufficient time to get to LAX.

Good luck, and have fun!

You might want to try contacting the school of journalism in advance and ask if your daughter can meet with a rep from the school. If she can, I would suggest that she prepare some specific questions in advance.

If it's not too late, recommend you stay at the Mid-town Radisson instead. It is right across the street from the campus so you can come and go as you please. It is also the overflow dorm. Try to catch a basketball or volleyball game at the new Galen center next door. Cruise the bookstore, Trojan Grounds coffee shop, arrange to sit in on a class or two. Eat lunch at Chano's taco stand on Figueroa or El Chollo on Western Ave. Leave campus for the airport at 3:30.

dt123 has some good advice, but I would recommend Commons in lieu of Chano's. I loooove Mexican food but the Chano's burrito I had was no good. I also wouldn't be surprised if they use MSG.

In addition to what dt said, I would recommend sitting by the fountain near McCarthy quad and maybe bring a frisbee and toss it around.

If you daughter is considering going Greek, she might want to head down to the Row, though I doubt there is much going on during that time.

My final suggestion is to post this same thread in the USC forum.

sfgiants, I took your suggestion and posted on the USC board. :)
