Okay, so I am a transfer student and I need to make a final decision asap!!!.. I can’t decide between Fresno State Or San Diego State. Not to sound like a cheater or anything, but I looked up the professors for both schools on rate my professor and I noticed that the Criminal Justice Professors for Fresno State had a lot of 4.0 and above for EASINESS. Whereas, SDSU did too but most were considered “Hard” according to students on rate my professor. I’ve visited both schools ONCE. I liked BOTH campuses except I didn’t like the city of Fresno. I am a beach person and I love the water and the beach and Fresno did not have that at all. It was too hot and no beach!!! all fields! On the other hands, I love So-Cal. San Diego had the nice weather, beaches, people, etc. My question was, whats more important? To go to a school where the professors are “easy” for your major? (Fresno in my case) and be miserable in the area. Or go to an area where you’ll love and let it be more challenging at school? (SDSU in my case)? PLEASE Help me out people. What would you guys do if you you guys found out that teachers were “easier” than your dream school. Would you go to a school just because you’ll be able to pass the classes with no problem? or just go to a nice area and the school of your dreams although the professors are “HARD” according to “Rate my professor”… Please and thank you people! By the way, I want to work at a juvenile hall and build myself up as a probation officer… Thank You
First of all, ignore RateMyProfessors.com. It’s not a representative sample of all the students in a professor’s class. A newish professor who has been teaching 6 classes a year with an average of 50 students per class for 3 years would have had 900 students over the course of his or her short career; even if s/he has 100 reviews on RMP, that’s still about 11% of their total number of students. Now think about a professor who has been teaching, 5, 7, 10 years - and even if they have 200-300 reviews, that’s still a small fraction of their total students taught. Most professors on RMP don’t have anywhere near 300 reviews though. So you are seeing a very small and probably biased fraction of students. Most students who are motivated enough to comment on RMP do so because of a negative experience, not a positive one.
Moreover, you WANT a college where the professors are challenging. Learning new things is not always easy. If all of your professors are easy, then that may mean that they are not challenging their students to grow and think in new ways, which can be difficult.
That combined with the fact that you just all over seem to prefer SDSU means, to me, that you should go to SDSU.
SDSU. Much better school academically and socially. I also think there a far more internship/job opportunties in the San Diego area than in Fresno. You were accepted to SDSU, so the school must think you can handle the courses. Good Luck and Go Azetecs!!!
Sounds like you would like SDSU more! I know this is late but I hope you chose there! The people who use that site are usually just the angry ones mad at their professor lol.
