HELP: Please chance me (not the common transfer)

Basically, I attended a 4 year cal state university my freshman year; however as a result of mentally detiorating family issues and working full time, my GPA was a low 3.0. After all of the family drama settled down, I transferred out into a california community college and have taken courses in the summer, fall, and winter and recieved a 4.0 each term. My GPA is now 3.45 and I have joined the Phi Theta Kappa honors society, recieved a new job at wells fargo, in the process of recieving my real estate license, play in a band, worked in a law office, first generation in my family to go to college, minority (hispanic), part of a non profit community outreach group revolved around the hispanic community, drastic upward grade trend, non-paid tutor at a local high school and I am trying to involve myself even more within the community college. I am hoping to transfer to NYU CAS, so please help, and input any advise . Also please keep in mind I have a good background story than can account for my early bad grades. I just hope that NYU can understand my new found ambition and look past the early mediocre grades.

Additionally;
My highschool grades are not too impressive; 3.3, 1650 SAT

The key issue is that I have undergone terrible expreriences that have drasticaly changed me , how may I express this to NYU/ do I have a shot to transfer? If not, any advise?
* I am applying to CAS (economics)

You might as well try, give it your best shot, and truly emphasize how you have changed for the better. You might want to emphasize why you are different now from your high school self as well. I would like reading a story of how a dramatic event changed somebody, and hopefully the adcoms will have the same sympathy.
