Help Please! Cheated Freshman Year!

All right guys, the title says all. I cheated on a Latin test freshman year and had to serve TWO detentions for it.
My question is: will this preclude my admission into the schools I'm interested in?

I can say, however, that getting punished for this action changed my entire outlook completely. I turned around and started studying hard and getting good grades. Since then I have not gotten into any more trouble. The guy who administered the detention to me became one of my closest friends at the school. He said that he will write a letter explaining how i got in trouble, and how my behavior has improved significantly over the years.
Will this somehow offset the fact i cheated? Will colleges give me mercy? Or will they reject me based on this ONE slip up?

Okay guys, here are my stats:

GPA: 3.6 (UW), 4.07 (W)

my re-calculated U of Michigan GPA is 3.8 UW

I took the most rigorous courseload possible...with lots of APs
I took AP Bio (5), Chem(5), US History(4), Art History (4), and Stats (5) last year
I am currently taking AP physics, lit, calc
SAT: CR- 760, M- 690, W-800
ACT: E- 36, M-35, R-36, S- 34. COMPOSITE: 35

I'm interested in going to Business School or maybe even going into Pre-Med.

ECs (not a lot)

Boy Scouts for 6 years, several community service projects and currently a Life Scout
Red Cross for a year and a half
Cross Country for 3 years (2 years JV, 1 year V)
Quiz Bowl Varsity for 3 years
went to Harvard SSP, did a chemistry course and got a B+
highest scorer on the American Chemical Society Chemistry test in the school (didnt make it to USAChO though)
went to Duke Young Writers Camp in 2007
went to National Youth Leadership Training camp in 2007... got really inspired, i bet i could write an amazing essay on that experience.

I got 2nd place at the state spelling bee when I was in 7th and 8th grade... i dk if that even counts lol.

side note: I did research at SLU this summer and wrote a 20 page research paper on it...it may win an award... i get to know about it soon. It for sure will be published, though.

I used to be really passionate about pursuing a career in medicine, but after this summer in research I don't feel too great about it. But I will do it if I get lots of money. I love money... and like I said earlier, I'm also weighing the business route equally. I can write about either passionately as long as I know i'm going to get some money out of it.

RECS: I can get some really good ones from my Chem and English teachers... and my essays I'll nail b/c I consider myself a pretty good writer, so just assume my essays will be awesome. Haha. (if you think i sound arrogant please give me some slack...i have nothing else to be proud of lol)

OK So...drum roll...here are the schools I'm interested in...from HIGHEST crapshoot to LOWEST, and so on...

WashU in STL
Tufts U
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
University of Virginia

ps. SAT Subject Tests are PENDING. I am taking them oct 10

(chem, math II)

Hmm…given your turnaround, your earlier actions will be mitigated, but it will still hurt you. Your grades are fine, but not much in the EC department. It’ll be close, but they may be matches. The cheating will hurt you to a degree, however, especially if it’s between you and someone else. Cheating is a much harder offense to mitigate than drinking or some weed.

bump…

uh idk… i cheated in 10th grade and honestly… i dont think it affects college aps at all. idk where EnAll is coming from, as drinking or smoking weed would be like… a criminal offense and ACTUALLY SHOW UP on the application, whereas cheating (i’m pretty sure) doesn’t at all. IDK i think my high school doesn’t report it to colleges or w/e. how is your gpa UW and W so… close in number for somone who took so many APs (and honors i assume)??

anyway, idk… gpa would bring you down, but it looks good. uh… washU will be difficult… ti’s a definite reach, but the rest are matches.

chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/786831-let-me-chance-you.html

Man…the ACT composite is smokin’…

thanks =)

it’s actually superscored lol. I got 33, then 34 and the superscore is 35.

more input please?

I think the fact that you turned it around will make you look good to the admission’s people. They like seeing cases like this.

bump

thx!

…

Yeah, showing how you learned from your experiences will help. Nonetheless, academic dishonesty is REALLY looked down upon, and it will definitely not be easy to dig yourself out of that.
