Help please! Conflicted on Pre-Orientation: Campus Comedy or Hot Lasers?

Hi,

I've been contemplating a pre orientation program for a while now, and I've been able to narrow my choice to Campus Comedy vs. Hot Lasers and Fast Atoms. Unfortunately, in that time, Hot Lasers filled up, though I could petition a spot on the waitlist. Anyway, my justification for Hot Lasers is that I'm a prospective physics major and I'm really interested in science, and it seems helpful and interesting. At the same time, I am also eyeing Campus Comedy because I have a terrible sense of humor (I laugh at so many jokes...) and I like comedy (although I have no theater/improv experience). I figure that I'll be doing lots of physics stuff in college, so why not try something new for pre-o? Still, on the other hand, the physics/science pre-o could be helpful in getting me acclimated to the physics environment at WashU, and most of the people in it would have similar interests, whereas people in Campus Comedy could be all over the place (which isn't bad, so long as they want to be there--if they're doing it just because it was empty, that wouldn't be very fun...). But even if I do choose Hot Lasers, I would be put on the waitlist, with a chance of getting off...

Any advice for an incoming freshman? Has anyone done either pre-orientation program and can discuss what it was like? How does the waitlist process work?

Do the campus comedy one. You’ll meet plenty of people interested in physics by being in classes with them. But the people you meet in the comedy pre-o are going to be people you wouldn’t have necessarily otherwise met. And Pre-O is about having fun and meeting new kinds of people!

For what it’s worth, I’ve heard Hot Lasers is boring.

But that’s just anecdotal. Even without Hot Lasers, there really isn’t necessarily anything you need to ‘acclimate’ to so soon in the physics department.

I would shy away from the academic pre-o’s and do one of the fun ones. I did KWUR, but the impression I’ve gotten from people who did the academic pre-o’s is that even though they are relevant to your academic interests, they’re school. And believe me, you don’t want to do that before the semester even starts.
