Hey guys I'm stuck! really need your help..
So.. so far I've got into CWRU, UC SD, and UC Irvine, wait listed for UVA and UM
I plan to major in Biology/Bio engineering as a pre-med step and then go for Medicine..
The thing is, my parents are not willing to pay the tuition for any of the 3 accepted schools further than a year unless I transfer into some decent school like UC Berkeley or one of the IVYs.. (If I make it to UVA or UM, I could stay there without these concerns)
<sat 1900="" ish,="" 5="" aps,="" 3.8="" gpa="" (unweighted)="" varsity="" sport="" ecs=""></sat>

So in short,
1. Which school from the 3 schools is the best choice for my situation?
2. Even if I deposit in CWRU/UCSD/Irvine, could I still go to UVA or UM if I get in?
3. what are the requirements for transferring? (SAT/GPA/etc..)
4. Do you have any further suggestions or advice?
ex) what to prepare during summer? :)

I know,,, sooo many questions! But I really need you guys here.. Thank you!

Your parents are going to pay the full bill the first year?
What will happen if your transfer fails?
What state are you in? International?

From what I have read, it is really difficult to transfer within the UC system. It is much easier to transfer into UCLA, Berkeley from a community college in California. If you are in California, look into community colleges. And there seems to be a lot of discussion on CC on how to transfer into UCB, just search for it, one example: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/319450-ucsd-vs-uci-please-help.html

Not sure, if it is a full bill, go with UCSD

Yes, you only lose the deposit.

I can’t say about UC, but for the two individuals who have transferred into Duke that I know, both had 3.9+ GPA first year at schools on the level of UCSD. Transfer into schools on the same teer probably would require the same kind of GPA.

Is this for real?

"my parents are not willing to pay the tuition for any of the 3 accepted schools further than a year unless I transfer into some decent school like UC Berkeley or one of the IVYs… "

The schools you got into to are very prestigious. Many believe that UCSD and UC Irvine are actually superior to Berkeley and many of the Ivies in Biology/Bio engineering. Berkeley doesn’t even have a med school! It must partner with UCSF. I think that your parents need an education themselves with regards to what an acceptable school is in today’s real world.

Many Ivies are ridiculously insufficient in engineering. For example, few companies recruit engineers from Harvard. Why? Because when it comes to some majors they aren’t even ranked.

Just like real estate is about location, location, location. College is all about major, major, major. Choose the major and THEN find the college with the best reputation for that major. For example, UCSD is surrounded by the bio tech industry and the school is deeply engaged in related studies and research. UCI is associated with a med school and hospital. One of only a handful of schools in CA that have this.

Your parents need to be made aware that their preconceptions of what is a good or bad school is hopelessly out of date.

Yes I’m an International Applicant from Europe now. Yea, and they only plan to pay my first year’s tuition unless I succeed in transferring … Sucks for me but I would still like to take my shot. Thank you so much anyways! :)

Thank you so much !!
(Ouch for my parents:)…)
So you’re saying unless its a “MUST MUST go for med” UCSD right :)?
you wouldn’t even consider Case Western Reserve?
