Help please PSAT/AP Bio confilict

Explore all the possibilities.

Not very many schools offer the early test on Wednesday, and you have to make a reservation because only a finite number of students can be accomodated on that day. At our high school, ten students are allowed to take the Wed. test at a neighboring school, and it has been booked up for several weeks. One possibility is to find a school near UCB that you can take the Sat. test at, and go down very early Sat. morning (or even stay at a hotel Fri. evening) and take the test there. At least you would be closer to where the event is taking place.

Tokenadult makes reference to the Supervisor’s manual. A careful reading implies that it is fairly straightforward for a school to switch to Wednesday administration… but it is far from clear. In addition, it is very clear that “ALL students must take the test at the same time in the morning.” I doubt if the school wants to get everyone up at 6 AM… too bad.

Interestingly enough, Oct. 17 is the holiday Idul Fitri; the 17th and the 20th fall during a vacation week for many Asian international schools. I suppose you can find conflicts with the PSAT on any day of the year.

The logistics of a Wednesday test administration are daunting because students in other grades would be attending classes at the same time.

Of course, it can be done – just as schools somehow manage to administer AP tests, which take place during the school day. But it would require some lead time to set it up. I wonder whether a school could accomplish it in the time remaining.

Thank you! I have quite a “to-do” list set up for Monday. If all else fails we will try to get the AP bio kids down to Cal the night before and hopefully take the test at a local hs. The Bio-Forum I believe starts at noon which would give us the time to complete the PSAT and meet up with the other kids.

If the Wednesday test date is possible, they do have a place. We’re talking about fewer than 20 Juniors.

Thanks again for your help and supportive suggestions.

Brainstorming here…Homeschool co-ops/umbrella schools might be one other option. In our area they administer the tests on Wednesday to avoid Saturday conflicts. Of course, they would have to have extra tests since I think the order deadline has passed but it is worth a shot.

Our school always does PSAT testing on the Wednesday. I think they want to make sure kids take it, since unlike the SAT it’s only given once a year.

imdamom…that may be the most workable suggestion yet. I’ll get in touch with the “alternative” school to see what they do. Thanks!

our school alaways does the PSAT on wednesday, they do something with the lower classmen during that time, and the seniors leave early

The time has passed to order the tests. If you have already ordered the Saturday tests then you need to take those. If they haven’t ordered the tests yet, then they won’t be able to order them. There probably aren’t any schools, including alternative schools, which would have ordered that many extra tests. They usually have around five extra. But, you can try. Explain to Berkeley what has happened, and see if you can work out a special field trip for them. Since, obviously this is not their fault. But, I would also be very careful with how your high school handles your children’s college search
