Help please... <SoCal people>

I'm in 8th grade, and I wanted to start my volunteering now.
Although it doesn't really count... I think it would leave a good impression when I put it on my app.

Does anyone have an idea of where I can do it?

Just join Key Club/Leo Club/other volunteering clubs.

jeez...keep it in your pants til the school year big guy

Either at the public library or the used bookstores right next to them...might be different where you live though.

so... public librarys let you volunteer at my age?

jeez...keep it in your pants til the school year big guy
I agree.

ummm... yea about that... i just called the library but they wont let me volunteer... any other ideas of where i CAN?

Just wait and JOIN KEY CLUB...

^^ there may not be a chapter at his school.

There are plenty of ways to get involved in the community, not just in organizations. You can volunteer at the hospital, the old folks' home, a homeless shelter, a trash-cleanup group, etc. At school, there are always ways of getting involved: Key Club, CSF, Leo Club, Interact Club, Habitat for Humanity, etc. You can also tutor people for free, which is a type of community service.

If your school doesn't have any of the above organizations, I'd really encourage you to start one up and follow it throughout highschool. It looks great on the app to have started something that you love and to have followed it for a long time.

jason, i bet you're excited about starting high school and all that, but relax a little. you're going to be there for 4 years. when you're a "big kid" you can start worrying about this.
not to judge you or anything but any 8th grader whos stressing this much about COLLEGE is not going to enjoy high school, or probably college if he's just going there because it's a good name. i'm really not trying to be mean, it's kind of a "what is this world coming to?!" thing. take a few deep breaths. it looks like you're a great student, very motivated. you'll be fine.

but, if you really want to volunteer, organize a clean-up of a local park or something. leadership, motivation, AND community involvement.

"^^ there may not be a chapter at his school."

in that case, he should start one -- that would be even better

Key Club!!!

Too bad you don't have a Builders Club at your school (affiliated with Key, and strong connections. Builder club leaders often get International positions in Key Club since they have a head start)

See if you can charter a new builders club ;)

<a href="http://www.buildersclub.org%5B/url%5D">www.buildersclub.org</a></p>

I was just giving an example of a volunteer club at most schools. His school probably has at least one if not more than one and if it doesn't he can start one which would be even better.
