Help Please-Teacher Made A Mistake-IMPORTANT

Ok, so i got my second semester final report card. My physics teacher gave me a B for the second semester (no plus or minus at my school). Second semester is supposed to be composed of the average of the third and fourth quarter. Third quarter i had a 94.7 fourth quarter i had a 86.6. My average is a 90.65 and therefore an A for the semester. The only problem is-i have no record of having a 94.7 because he deleted the grades off the internet. What should I do to get this changed? I know he made a mistake and only went off 4th quarter grades for second semester. This will be my first B and I really don't want that. It will drop me from 1 to about 3-4 in class rank. What should i do? HELP!!!

1. Chill, and drink some apple juice.

2. Go talk to your teacher/counselor, probably the former, as it is his fault if he did delete the 3rd quarter grades.

3. I think [insert speculation] that grading is ultimately what he wants to do, I guess if he tries to say some other stuff or try to make up for it, and say you had a B for another reason, etc, there's really nothing you can do.

Surely you have graded paper records, am I correct?

Well, if it was a genuine mistake by the teacher, simply call the school and see what you could do from there. You deserve that A, so go get what you worked your ass for. If the school saids they can't do anything about it, complain to the principal, make sure you earn what you deserve.

I want to hear from you.

you can try to appeal, but as Invoyable stated before, the teacher will probably be reluctant to change your grade and just come up with another reason that you got a B. It doesnt hurt to try though.

um, calm down. send your teacher an email.

Something similar happened to me, the teacher says that she can't change it w/o an okay from the principal. I'm going to talk to the Principal after school starts.

it's a b, not cancer
if you're right, you'll get your A back

send a very unassuming and unaggressive email, explaining what you just said. just say something along the lines of "i was reviewing my semester grades and saw that I got 94 and 86 which averaged out to a 90, however i got a b, i am a little confused it would be great if you can get back to me"
diplomacy wins

What about your final? Could that have influenced your grade in some way?

Just talk to your teacher and calm down.

thanks for the advice.
if i earned a B i wouldn't be freaking out. but i didn't earn a B and therefore getting a B on my transcript wouldn't be fair.
and no, on my final i got a 95 so it would only help, not hurt, my semester grade.

Like someone else said, are you sure your final exam isn't included in the average ? That's how it is for my school... average of final, 3rd qtr, and 4th qtr.

Find out where he lives and burn down his house. Leave a note in pig's blood that says your name, address, social security and your request: "Change my grade NOW."

lmao ^^^^ too funny
I'd suggest doing something less drastic. I'm sure it'll be ok, my teachers mess up my grade all the time, and they always go back and fix it after I told them. Just make sure you get in contact with him right now, don't wait until next year, lest he threw away his gradebook or something

It's possible your school averages the quality points, not the actual numbers. My school does that, and weights the second(/fourth) quarter more, so that really only the second quarter of the semester counts for a transcript if it's only A->B or something.

he may have averaged the assignments in the 3rd and 4th quarters (not the final grades) and u possible may have had more assignments in the 4th quarter which is why he gave u a B

Ok the student complaining to the principal won't do anything. Have your parents complain and then you'll see things get done.

Definitely don't have a parent complain. Teacher's appreciate if you take the initiative. This kind of thing has happened to me before...just send an email politely explaining the situation and the teacher will probably change it immediately...

This happened to me first semester in gym class. Thankfully, it happened to a couple of my friends also, so we all went to the teacher together and calmly informed him of his mistake. Calmness and politeness are essential here; the teacher will be less inclined to help you if you are hysterical. I would be a little wary of e-mail, because certain people never check their e-mails. If you can, contact the school (don't have your parents do it) and talk to him by phone. If you have midterms or progress reports from the third quarter, that would be helpful in proving your case.

even if he averaged points not just percents, 3rd quarter had WAY more points than 4th quarter so that would only help my grade again. and no, my school does not average in final exams with some weird formula like 40% quarter 3 40% quarter 4 20% final exam. final exams are put in with the rest of the points from that quarter

i know at least one person said they wanted an update on this... i got a message from the registrar today and she confirmed he changed the grade. she said i could come in and get a copy of my transcript to prove the change.
