Hey everyone,
I have applied as a transfer applicant to five schools. I just got accepted to one, but they want me to accept/decline by May 11. Problem is, I don't find out from all of my schools until June 1! What do I do? Can I get some sort of extension, or should I send in the $100 deposit to hold my spot? Is that okay, to send in a deposit and withdraw it, or is that a big no-no?
Thanks!
Katherine

I’m pretty sure this question is going around a LOT. I don’t know how to help you, but calling up the school and asking certainly won’t hurt.

call and ask for an extension

If this happens to me (which I don’t think it will, fortunately) I will be sending the deposit in to my second choice (that I am accepted into) if I haven’t heard back from my 1st.

I need to send a deposit in the next 15 days to my 2nd choice…my first choice still still no word. I think I will wait it out till last minute though.

I’m in this situation as well as I have to have a $450 deposit in by May 3rd but won’t hear back from my other schools until a week or two after that date (plus one in June). While my situation might not be representative of those asking, I talked to my college advisor on Friday to figure out what I should do and he was very enthusiastic about calling the schools I’m waiting to hear back from (if WashU doesn’t extend its deadline when I call tomorrow/later today). He said to just explain to them that I was admitted to a school holding me to a deadline and I’d like to be able to compare as many financial aid awards as possible, as it’s a critical part of my decision. If you aren’t in a financial situation then it might be more difficult for a school to extend its deadline then. I’ll either make one phone call or many tomorrow, so I’ll keep you updated as to how that goes…

Thanks everyone! I’m going to submit my deposit to hold my spot.
