Help please! UC Personal Statement Query

Hello,

I am working on my UC Prompt #1 Personal Statement (Describe the world you come from and how it has shaped your dreams and aspirations). I am basically talking about a specific feature of the atmosphere I've been raised in, and how it has shaped some of my personality traits, and how they have further led me to my career interest.

I want to talk about a lot of different experiences I've had that have together contributed to the 'atmosphere' I'm talking about.

However, I'm worried that accommodating all of them will make my essay a little superficial and lacking in depth. On the other hand, I'm worried that if I eliminate a few, my essay will not give a complete picture of my 'world' and that the message I intend to convey may not come through.

What would be wiser?

My opinion is that with 1000 word limit between 2 essays, pick the 2-3 most important experiences relating to your atmosphere and focus on those. It’s not about quantity, but the quality of your experiences. Good luck! :)

Okay, thank you
Also, I wanted to know… are the UC Personal Statements supposed to be quite straightforward and direct? Or do they appreciate out-of-the-box creativity?

Creative if that is your personality, just don’t try to be if you are not. Be the best version of YOU. It will get you into the colleges that are best fit for you. :)
