HELP PLEASE!!Will Cornell Rescind My Acceptance?

It's fourth quarter and I'm really scared that Cornell's Hotel School will rescind my acceptance. While most of my grades are really strong (A's and one B) there is just one class (AP Calc) that I just can't seem to get. While I am not trying to put the blame on my teacher, it is near impossible to pass his class, he told his students this much! The person with the highest grade has a "C" only because he is on college waiver and has a separate teacher. I know that I am learning something because I got a 3 on my mock exam (which was on everything, even what we haven't learned). My teacher's students are also known for getting the highest AP Calc exam scores in the state. If I don't do well in the class, but get a 5 or even a 4 on the exam do you think my acceptance will be rescinded?

P.S. I got an invitation to the Prefreshman Summer Program (mine wasn't mandatory). They offer 2 Calculus courses for the summer, if I do well in that could it help? Thanks for the advice in advance!!!

i doubt they’ll rescind you… Hotel school isn’t so much into the stats… And yeah take the program if it’s in your interest to catch up on some academics.

AB or BC? What grade do you have?

If you fail the class you would very likely just be put on academic warning your first semester here.

Very few kids ever get rescinded - you need to have seriously lied on your application/been convicted of a crime/failed MULTIPLE classes.

Calculus is optional in the Hotel school curriculum, so I wouldn’t worry about it…

@Colene and @ pch340 thank you! I’ll definately be doing the PSP.

@Saugus I have a D and it’s in AB…there is no way I would be able to survive in BC

@ilr2013 I’m trying very hard not to fail…but at this point I’m on that thin line between a D and an F. Academic warning I can handle, it’s way better than the alternative.

How are you studying? Why don’t you just practice problems out of the book or something?

My teacher is very specific about HOW we answer the problems. We rarely use the book at all. All of our points are based off of how we get a solution, so if the book shows you a different way to get the answer and you use that way, it’s likely that you’ll only get the points for the correct answer (usually 1 or 2 out of 9) and not the ones associated with the work.

what were your stats?
i also applied to sha but have not received a letter yet.
im applying as a transfer

@hostpitalityhelp 3.5 GPA 1890 SAT 30 ACT I didn’t do well on my subject tests so might as well not even include those…3 AP credits and my high school has a competitive culinary program that I have been in for all 4 years

If you are in danger of failing the class, you need to IMMEDIATELY be talking to your guidance counselor and the teacher. I’m not sure if you are at serious risk of being rescinded, but regardless, it’ll be good practice for college where the responsibility falls on you to be on top of your grades. If you ever start falling behind at Cornell, you need to go to your advisor and professor(s), otherwise you can fail out and no one will stop you if you don’t seek out help.

@shufflin
Did you have any work experience

Do your best but I don’t think you’ll be in serious danger of getting the offer taken away. But as for PSP that’s definitely an opportunity you want to take advantage of. I did it 2 years ago and some of my closest friends now are people I met during PSP. Plus it’s a good way to lighten your schedule and start your GPA off right. Any way you can lighten your schedule early is only going to help you later and you’ll really appreciate it. Also Ithaca is wonderful in the summer! It’s always nice and at the “right” temperature.
