My son did not receive any interview invitation until the past Thursday (March 17). The interviewer sent an email to my son, asking if my son would be available on either Friday or Saturday so that the interviewer could call my son for a telephone interview. My son replied on Thursday evening with his contact number, telling the interviewer that any time on Friday would be fine. However, my son has not heard anything back form the interviewer since then, neither email nor phone call.

Should my son just keep waiting or call the interviewer to check for it (the interviewer put his phone number in his email)?

Also, is it normal to be asked to conduct the interview this late, less than two weeks from the decision announcement date?

Thanks!

Was this an alumni interviewer or an adcom? I think late interviews with adcoms aren’t too unusual.

This was an alumni interviewer from the same city.

This sort of interview are normally requested directly by the adcomm. They are usually for borderline applicants, or in order to ask specific questions relating to his app.

I think he should keep waiting as the interviewer is prolly just busy now. If the day passes with no call, shoot him an email early tomorrow with other convenient times.

:) GL with everything.

^
Would this mean he is close to acceptance or anything?

No idea, hopefully it’s a positive sign. The interviewer did mention in his email that the admission office asked him to conduct the interview. The dilemma that my son faces is that he will be away from the town tomorrow for a week to attend a national competition, so he doesn’t have much time to wait in town. However, my son is afraid that the interviewer may feel being pushed hard if my son calls the interviewer directly.
