Help please

I am a freshman at a private university. I do not like it due to various reasons and on top of that, my GPA is low. I definitely want to transfer to an out of state university, but my GPA is well below any school's requirement. Should I attend community college or transfer to a local college for a year before transferring? Will going to two schools harm me if I want to transfer again or should I just stick it out for two years? I really can't stand where I am at, so please help me.

Save your money, go to CC to rehabilitate your GPA and get refocused.

Most public colleges will not care that you had a double-transfer in your past. My daughter attended a private LAC followed by two different CCs and then transferred into yet another LAC after the middle stint at the CCs. Not a biggie for most places.

My main question is the following. What is better: a 3.0 at a top 50 school or a 3.5 at a CC or 4th tier school?

Please help me

It depends.

If you are trying to apply to grad schools, it would probably be better to have a 3.5 from a 4th tier school… but again, I think you’d have to name specifics: which schools exactly (undergrad and grad).

If you just want to get a job, most places do NOT ask to see your transcripts and only want to know you have your degree. Whether or not it is better to have a top-50 LAC vs a lower tier school depends entirely on the field and if there is a lot of bias at play.

If you are trying to transfer – to be honest, I think a 3.5 from a lower ranked school is going to get a longer look than a ho-hum 3.0 from a top-50. Chances are that both such students would get looked at. BUT AGAIN, you need to name specific schools to get more targeted advice.

It is almost a toss-up. Go where you can afford and go where you can apply yourself to the schoolwork with passion.

I want to attend UMD-CP or a school similar to it. My GPA is terrible and I am at a school which is ranked higher than Maryland. Should I attend CC to raise my GPA rather than be miserable and have my grades suffer at my current college?

anybody help?

So, should I go to CC for a year or two and then transfer?
