I live in New York and I am a junior in high school. I’ve been looking at colleges and this one really grabbed my attention. There are some things i’d like to know though…

1) What is admissions looking for?
2) Is it important to have a lot of volunteer hours?
3) Is a 3.7 GPA good enough?
4) What is life on campus like?
5) How far is the closest beach?
6) Is it a diverse community?
7) What is the swim program like?

1.) So, first off there are two different public university systems in California, both of which have different admissions requirements. I’m not sure how it is for first time freshman, but here’s my experience as a transfer student.

The UC system is the one which requires all the crazy hard classes, the volunteer work, the personal essays, the recommendations, etc.

The Cal State system is the one which requires you to have a G.P.A above 3.0 and 60 units completed.

Cal Poly is within the Cal State system. Again, I don’t know about FTF, but as a transfer all I had to submit was my GPA. No essays, no letters of recommendation, no volunteer work.

2.) No. [Admission Requirements for First-time Freshmen](http://dsa.csupomona.edu/admissions/admrqrmnts_ftf.asp) - They only care about your coursework and GPA.

3.) Depends on your major. Do you know what you want to major in yet?

4.) No idea. I applied to Fall '12

5.) Far. Seriously far. Some people will tell you it’s only 30 minutes, those people are lying to you. If you include traffic and parking, it’s at least an hour. There are other schools closer to the water.

6/7) no clue.

Hope I helped!
