I live in New York and I am a junior in high school. I’ve been looking at colleges and this one really grabbed my attention. There are some things i’d like to know though…

1) What is admissions looking for?
2) Is it important to have a lot of volunteer hours?
3) Is a 3.7 GPA good enough?
4) What is life on campus like?
5) How far is the closest beach?
6) Is it a diverse community?
7) What is the swim program like?

Hey. I’m not actually a student yet but since you weren’t getting any other responses I’d thought I’d answer some of your questions. I have visited the campus and talked to the president and the admissions and I’ve gotten answers to all my questions which were similar to yours.

1) They look for rigorous course work (APs), GPA, and extra curriculars. They are REALLY big on being involved so extra curriculars can make or break you. Plus you get bonus points if you do an interview.
2) I don’t know if it’s important important but it’ll get you the admissions board attention.
3) The average in a 3.65 which means they have agood mix of kida above and below the average. I have a 3.7 as well and I was told I have a really good chance of getting in.
4) The kids are really friendly and it’s a small school so everyone pretty much knows each other. I have friends who go there and say there is no place more friendly and welcoming and just fun. It is a dry campus though so there isn’t many “crazy” parties. For me that’s a good think but I don’t know what you want in a college experience.
5) The closest beach in Virginia Beach and it’s about 30 minutes to an hour away.
6) It is mostly white, not really that diverse. But they do have other races, just not so many that you would say “Oh look how diverse this school is”
7) I don’t know about a swim program because they don’t have a pool. Or at least they told me they don’t.

Hope I helped some :)

They have a swimming club that you can join that goes to a local indoor pool nearby each week :)
