I was accepted to Vanderbilt this year and will be attending in the fall. I have a problem however. On my common app, I mistakenly put that my mother and father both did not go to college (high school grads) instead of only my father because my mother did go to college for two years and dropped out. She went to college in Chile so I think there is no record that exists to document her attending this college for two years. Could I get in trouble for lying when I just made a really bad mistake? What should I do? I dont want Vandy to think I lied just to get the upper hand ad a first generation when in fact my mom did go to college for two years

No, you’re fine. I don’t think they care at this point.

Also first generation typically means that your parent graduated from college so I think you are fine.
