Help please

Hello everyone.

I went to college for the 2002-2003 school year, and due to financial circumstances have not been back yet. I want to try to get back for the fall of this year. I filed a FAFSA and got my SAR. It says my EFC is 0000* (dont know what the asterisk means, but it's there). Now heres the problem. I still owe the school money from the last year i was attending, and its a significant amount of money. So, can financial aid be used to help alleviate some of those prior expenses, or are there loans that im eligible for through fafsa that can help me with those expenses?

Thanks everyone,
Matt

Most schools will not allow you to register until your account is clear.
If you get a loan to cover costs already incurred- I think it would have to be a personal loan, not something through FAFSA, but your school would really be the one to talk to.

When you find an EFC with an asterisk on your SAR, you will be required to go through a process called "verification". The financial aid office will ask you to submit your tax return, W-2's, 1099's or any other pertinent documents so they can verify the numbers on the FAFSA. Good luck!
