looking up some schools in UK because I didn't do well on my SATs. Interested in KCL, whose entry requirement is supposedly 1800. I got a total of 1920, but my writing section was 540. I know they require 600 in each section, but has there been any exceptions (ex: great personal statement, reference etc.)? I do have two SAT IIs around 700, does that help?

Impossible to say. Choose the subject you wish to study at KCL (effectively equivalent to US major, but there are no minors) and then look at the admissions requirements for students from your country (assume US) on their website. I really wouldn’t choose KCL if you are looking for an easy option though! You also need to do some research to decide whether a UK education is for you. It is very different from the US.

Entry requirements are a bit different in the UK - they’re a minimum threshold, and often (but not always) you will find that anyone with grades below the required will have their application immediately binned. So, if you wanted to apply to KCL then you should count that as a ‘reach’ and make sure that you apply to other universities with lower entry requirements too.

Don’t think for a moment that it is easier to get into UK colleges and unis then it is to get into American ones. UK colleges and unis have not “dumbed down” their admissions requirements like American ones have. Overall, on average, it is harder to get into UK colleges and unis.

As others have said, UK colleges and unis (unlike USA ones) are not going to reduce an admissions requirement just because someone comes and whines a lot. That is not a strategy that will ever work in the UK. If KCL says that they want a 600 in each section of the SAT, and you don’t have that, then you can’t apply to KCL. Well you can, but they will just throw your application away. No matter how much you whine about it.

You will indeed find some schools in the UK who don’t care one bit about the SAT. But they will have other requirements that, like I said, you MUST meet. Even if you didn’t have such low SAT scores, to get into KCL (or another school of that standard) I’m pretty sure you would need three SAT II tests with scores of at least 700, not two with scores of “about 700”.
