Help please.

Hey all. I thought this might be the best place to ask this question.

I'm currently deciding whether or not I should take the AP Stats exam.
The deadline to register is Mar 20, so I need to make a decision soon.

I'm very sure I'm not going to major in Stats. I like math, but I don't really like the kind of math taught in AP Stats.

I was wondering if anyone here know whether or not AP Stats is helpful in colleges? Do colleges require that class?

I want to save money for other useful classes, but I don't want to waste money on AP exams that colleges don't need/not useful.

If you have been taking practice tests, and think you will score at least a 3 or 4, you may want to take the exam. Many college offer credit or advanced standing for AP's - what score is required depends on the college.

It depends on what you plan to major in. You should check the required classes for the major you want at the schools you are interested in attending. You might be surprised at how many majors do require Stats. My freshman S is very glad he took the AP Stats exam (and passed it) because it is required for his major (not a math major or even close). He has heard it is a tough course at his univ. is glad to not have to take Stats again.

Packmom, are you from NC? I'm in NC. Is your son in NCSU?

I don't have a major yet, so I can't really check, but I am into computer stuffs.......

Can you ask him the percentage of Freshmen who took the AP Stats exam?

You should take it. Even if you are not a math/science major, you will probably need a math course to graduate. Check the website(s) of the school(s) you applied to and see if the credit will help for your major. Even if you just get elective credit it will probably save you money.

MD, yes my S is a freshman at NCSU. He has no idea of the % of freshman who took Stats exam. The registrar's office might have that info.
