Hey everyone!
I’m a freshman, and I am really good student, I got 4.0 most quarters in middle school, however i got off to a somewhat slow start in my first semester of high school. My overall unweighted gpa right now is 3.429. Will colleges hold my first semester of freshman year against me? Also, do you guys think it is possible that I can raise my unweighted GPA to at least a 3.8 by the end of my junior year, if I take one honors class next year and like 4 honors classes in my junior year, and get good grades in them? Thanks a lot!

hehe, we're getting a little ahead of ourselves, aren't we? So, I think that it would help you to not think about your GPA when you've only (evidently) taken seven courses. The number doesn't mean a whole lot, yet, and calculating it already just makes your chances look worse.

So it looks like, to me, you've gotten A's in 3 courses and B's in 4. This is not aweful, and with good performance later on you will be able to improve your GPA a lot. If, for example, you receive all A's in each of 7 courses a semester for a year (this current semester and next semester), your GPA will already be above 3.8, and you'll only be a mid-year sophomore. There are a lot of ways different grades will affect your GPA, and I leave the calculation to you (it's honestly not that hard). What's important is that you don't rule anything out yet, and that you strive to improve - colleges love to see a record of steady improvement culminating in a very qualified candidate by the time of application.

Woah, chill out! You have nothing to worry about right now. Take some time, get used to high school, work hard. Your GPA will rise as you gain studying skills, work harder, and take more classes that interest you. Your freshman year does matter for college admissions, but it doesn't matter nearly as much as later years, so relax and enjoy high school.
