Hi I’ve taken my SAT 1 (1340) and SAT 2 (Physics: 580 Math lvl 1: 510) I mainly did bad because I wasnt able to finish the test at all and I studied for like a week for these two tests… I messed up I know. Im living in Pakistan and Im an american born citizen doing A levels (Last year). I’m planning on giving SAT 1 again in Jan ive already registered for it because I thought I would do good in physics and get above 600s . Im having a hard time on what to do … I know I can do better on my sat 2 tests with good prep now. I love physics I got a B is O’levels which is an -A when converted to GPA. And Math lvl 1 was easy but I wasn’t able to complete it which left me an abysmal state of doubt. Sigh I don’t know if I shud give the sat 1 again or give the sat 2 again ? Please help asap… would any college even accept me ? I came to Pakistan during my freshman year. My 1st year of O levels(9th grade) went horrible because of the teachers and the language gap but then next year I stepped it up I took the physics exam 1 year before I was suppose to (you’re suppose to take CIE exams in 3 years for O’levels) And grabbed a B. in my 11th grade I took the exam for the rest of my subjects and got 2 Bs and 2Cs . Anyways, Im over here depressed . My A levels 1st year (12th grade) didn’t go so well now im in my last year (2nd year) I was hoping to accomplish everything this year but It doesn’t seem that way … My SAT scores are bad what shud I do ? I don’t even know if the colleges I apply to will understand my situation. please reply ASAP.
btw taking physics in A levels is AP. but we finished the syllabus in December. this year…will be giving CIE exams for A levels in May/June.
Do you mean your total score for all three sections of SAT 1 was 1340? If so, you will have an extremely difficult time getting it to a decent level. If that was your score on just CR and math, then study like crazy and retake. There is a super helpful thread on this site called how I raided my Sat score over 700 points. Look at it. Re your SAT2 scores, not great either. Study and retake.
You have given no useful info…are you planning to apply for college in the US for Fall 2016? Or Fall 2017? If it’s Fall 2017, good. You have months to study. Most people do spend months studying for these tests.
For fall 2016
and yeah total score is 1340
Shud I just take a gap year instead then? Will be giving SAT 1 in Jan again.
And I will be giving SAT 1 in Jan again .
I hope this doesn’t sound brutal, but your scores aren’t great. The colleges you can get into most likely won’t care about your scores. They will be interested in the fact that you are a foreign student and they can charge you full tuition. Focus on getting good grades for now. And yes, consider a gap year. Please use the SuperMatch tool on this website. You can put in all your details and it will tell you what schools you can get into. If I were you, I would consider going to college where you are, do well, then try to transfer after a year. But forget about top colleges. Your SAT test scores all need to be above 700 in each section (2100 at least total for SAT 1) to even think about applying. I strongly doubt you can add 750 points to your test score for,the January test, and it will be a hugely stressful challenge to try and do so. My daughter spent several months studying for,the SAT 1 and took it once. She scored 2240. Not because she is a genius, or even close. She worked really hard. If you are applying to colleges for Fall 2016, I don’t even think your SAT scores for January can be submitted, unless you apply to colleges with rolling admissions, or, in other words, not selective colleges.
If you absolutely must come to,the U.S. to study, enrol in a community college that you can afford, in an area you want to be in. Work hard doing general education requirements, and transfer after a year to a better university.
Alos, not sure if you realize that most college applications are due Jan 1 or 15th. Some a little later, or rolling admissions, which are your best bet. And you need to get all your scores and school details sent to these colleges as soon as possible. You have left this all very late. Consider taking the gap year. I am not trying to be harsh, just honest.
I understand, you’re right … I am thinking of taking a gap year. colleges im applying to have deadlines around feb and rolling admissions. btw I’m not really considered as a foreign because im a U.S. citizen. And ill be eligible for financial aid, I’ve talked to my colleges and they assured me ill be considered as a domestic applicant. I figured I am doing this all too late…I shudve done this last year. And yeah well we’ll see what happens in the Jan test it is hard ill be honest though. I’ll consider go to a college here and transfer or do community college. Anyways thanks for the advice Happy new years and I wish the best for you and your children .
Know that there are lots and lots and lots of not so competitive schools that will take a 1340 SAT score. And lots of “test optional” schools. You just have to do your homework and find them.
