Help Please

hi, it's my first time posting here.
I'm currently having a D in AP Stats, and there's no way to bring it up since there'll be no more assignments in that class. I've talked with my teacher and she just wouldn't do anything about it. Also, since the school is near the end, I cannnot drop the class. I've talked to UCSD admission office and they just told me that my admission will be likely to be revoked but they are not 100% sure.
Besides this D, other conditoins on the contract are met. My question is how bad is my situation right now? do i need to forget about going to UCSD and get ready for a community college?
I'm so worried now, please give me some suggestions.
thanks in advance

if you passed the AP Stats exam, that may be a better indicator of your performance -- and maybe your teacher's just a jerk and likes handing out bad grades.

otherwise, it ain't looking good. i mean, senioritis is a commonly tossed-around phrase and while it's ok to cut back on the intensity of your work, it is NOT a smart idea to totally abandon a class. you worked so hard for 3 1/2 years padding your college applications ... what happened?

thanks for replying, it's because i missunderstood my final project's directions and received a 0 on it. i did poorly on the AP test since I didn't learn much in that class, so how likely am i going to a community college? like 90%? do you know how many students with a D in their senior year classes does UCSD take?
sorry for asking so many useless questions, im just so nervous.

ugh. i hate to see this happen to someone. Try beggin ur stat teacher one more time. If that fails, u need to fully convince UCSD that u are still deserving of attending UCSD and that ur "D" was a complete anomaly to ur record. And if that fails, i guess u have to go to a CC. Sorry, the reality, in this case, sucks big time! Good luck!!

thanks so much, i dont think my stubborn teacher will do any change, so should i write to UCSD right now or just wait after they revoke my admission?

what would you plan on saying to UCSD that you didn't say the first time? i don't think it's looking very good right now.

i really don't know what to do now, im so worried.

what does the admission office mean by saying they're not 100% sure? i mean, why don't they just say i can't go there?

well i dont have any advice because im not in the same situation but man your teacher is so mean, i mean seriously why cant she do this for you just this once? seriously i hate teachers like that. or if you misunderstood the final then could you ask to redo it for partial credit?
um do you think if you start crying that she'll have pity on you and let you redo the final? i mean you have to try whatever you can. just be like super depressed and cry everyday in class.

i hope you get to go to ucsd. this really sucks.

in fact, i almost cried this morning when i begged for another chance, but she wouldn't listen. this really sucks cuz i've already told everyone im going to ucsd.
so there's really no way i can go to sd?

Go to your principal or counselor and ask them if they can persuade your stats teacher to have some pity.

What a ***** though...why did she give you a zero? Man I hope she gets fired.

it's a long story. so it's better to drop a class than get a D? i mean my school doesn't allow students to drop a calss with a grade of c or better in that calss, can this be an excuse?

Looking on the positive side of things, if UCSD wasn't your first choice it's wayyyyyyyyy easier to get into UCLA or UCB from cc than it is from hs

I know!
Bake your teacher some cookies and write her/him a really long letter explaining your situation and how crucial a C is to you. Or something. Who knows, they might be sold...

I wouldn't write UCSD personally, but could you get your counselor to write a letter for you? That would make it sound much more credible, and there have been situations where someone has gotten a D or an F in a class but was saved by the counselor.

Did you try asking your stats teacher if there's any additional work or anything you could do to get it raised to a C-. Maybe you could do a variant of that final project for a shot at a slight increase in the grade. Make sure the teacher knows that this'll make the difference between you going to UCSD or a CC. It's really not that fair to lay that on the teacher but you could always try. If that doesn't work you could see what the counselor might recommend for you and maybe they're willing to discuss it with the teacher. Stay away from stating 'the teacher isn't fair', 'the teacher just doesn't like me', etc. since they hear that as an excuse all the time. Maybe focus on your lack of understanding that resulted in the grade of 0. However, look at from their viewpoint. You usually have to mess up pretty poorly to get a 0 on a final project in a HS class. The fact that you didn't do well on the AP stats test doesn't help either.

Anyway, give it a try - right away. You don't have that much to lose. Again, focus more on what else YOU can do to earn a higher grade instead of just trying to have the teacher change the grade without reason.

Thanks for all the replyings, I think I'm gonna have my counselor write a letter to UCSD since I really don't see any chance my stats teacher can change the grade.
so, should I send the explanations right away or wait until UCSD revokes my application?

Usually things like that are sent alongside the final transcript, but you should ask your counselor about that.

Also, I would suggest that you call UCSD and explain the situation, highlighting the fact that you misunderstood the directions and subsequently received a zero on it, resulting in a D in the class and your teacher refused to let you redo it with the proper directions. Ask if you could take Stats at a CC in the summer. The provisional contract says everything must be done by Spring 2008, but maybe you'll get lucky and they'll let you...maybe that combined with a letter from a counselor? It's always worth a shot, plus if you show how hard you're willing to work to go there, it shows that you really want to go and they may excuse you for this this one time.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to end up at a cc next Fall. You could use the extra money to go to Europe this summer or next, and then transfer to UCB, UCLA, or UCSD.
