I recently decided that i want to apply to cals as a horticulture, however the problem is that i'm not exactly sure how I could show fit for this major. I've had my own garden for several years, but have never done any ral extracurriculars related to horticulture. does anyone have advice?

Well. Write about your own gardening experience. Get a summer job at a local garden shop. Start a gardening club at school.

It's a great program, and the Plantations are fantastic. Liberty Hyde Bailey is a personal hero of mine,

thanks. Do you by any chance know any plant science majors in either the horticulture or plant genetics concentrations that would be willing to post their highschool stats as far as grades and extracurriculars. i'd really appreciate it, im trying to get a feel for what i need to do to get my resume to an acceptable level.

For a plant science major, I think you should aim for at least a 1300-1350 SAT, with good performance in your biology and chemistry coursework. You should also hope to be in the top 10-15 percent of your graduating class.

That said, plenty of CALS students get accepted with a 1200-1250 provided they have a very passionate interest in their field (or they are from Canada and can play hockey).

If you don't get accepted the first time around, CALS has a lot of great articulation agreements with community and state colleges for students interested in some of the applied fields of study.

You can also try emailing some of the kids in the horticulture club or getting into contact with admissions directly.

thank you for another speedy response. I'll take my sat's for the first time next week, but judging by my psat's i seem to be right on track. I've done very well in chemistry so far and will likely wind up with an A+ both semesters, however that was a standard class. I took honors bio last year and managed only a A- and B+ respectivley in my two semesters. is that b+ going to be a major issue? also my unweighted gpa is only a 3.6, is that going to ruin my chances?
