Hey everybody, I'm thinking about applying to a few top boarding schools a.k.a Lawrenceville, Peddie, Hotchkiss, and the Hun school and I was wondering about what my chances are. For Peddie when asked what honors/ awards I recieved I wrote the following;

D.A.R.E1st place essay winner,Presidential award, artwork displayed in cafe next to State House, honored for being a photographer for book " Woodbridge then and now", has certificates for volunteering in the Hand in Hand Festival, Christmas of April Organization, Scholastic Student CREW team &Inman avenue association, made all honor rolls and club 100's,chosen as state ambassador for JRNYLC& NYLC.Recieved achievement&participation awards from "Reading Rainbow", NJ watershed Ambassador Program&Amerigroup Foundation, also will be awarded for volunteering over 150 hours at main library& VSFA award

How does this sound? I don't have any sports awards and you only recieve a limited amount of space.

i got straight A’s all throughout 5th, all A’s and 2 B’s in 6th, and all A’s in 7th grade; these are my final grades.
I am in both gifted and talented programs and passed both tests on first attempts, I am also in both honors offered (reading/writing and math).
I also recieved all AP’s on my state tests so far, but I haven’t gotten my 7th grade results back yet.

You have a ton of community service, good grades, academic and artistic honors. Do well in 8th grade, and, from the information you’ve given me, you’re perfect.

That was weird, but kind of cool. I guess you see why I want you to add Andover to your list now, seeing as you know I go there. I’m pretty sure you’re a perfect fir there also. It could just be me.

I mean it would help, but with the amount of other things she has it may not matter that much.
Sarum, that’s why I said “from what you’ve given me.” It seems she’ll be able to write good essays, which I would argue are as important as interviews, based on her writing awards. The interview is a tossup, and sure, it can ruin your chances, but all her other information is good.

eh. I am not so sure about the DARE award. If we are talking about the same one as I am, which is a grade wide competition, it is not incredibly hard to win. I won first place at my school and wrote mine in like 20 minutes. But then again, it could depend on your school…

well, i did volleyball on a team in 7th grade, i will probably do basketball on a team for 8th grade and i swim , play football, wrestle occasionally, and play soccer; not on teams though, and where I live ( a smaller town) there aren’t many sports awards given so im worried about how that may affect my chances.
and to preppychica36: yes it was grade wide, but it took a really long time to write for me and other people in my grade were equally talented writers, I could remove that and put another award down but I feel that I worked extremely hard on the essay, hence it should be on the list.

err, you guys got me worried about the interview now =/ anyone mind telling me how it’s like and what they ask at the interview? And how should you really act like I read somewhere you should ask a lot of questions such as how the school is efficient in energy consumption or something like that but i mean i really don’t understand how that question is relevant to the interview. Also, I’m guessing you should use a vivid vocabulary while talking…?

Prepare questions beforehand that deal with your interests and can’t be answered by the website. For example, if your interests deal with energy solutions, ask about energy efficiency. Take a simple question and expand into other subjects that include your experiences. Don’t focus on your vocabulary, focus on how amazing you are so they will see how much they want you.

and stop worrying so much about the interview, confusedgurl. You will continually get pretty much the same advice:
Be yourself
Know the school and what it offers.
Dress nicely

Calm down. The interviews are not the end of the world. I am sure you will do fine.
