Help, please!

Recently, I finally received my official financial aid notification of how much my school (UCLA) will offer me in financial aid... I haven't submitted the offer yet because I still wanted some time to think what loans I should of chose that UCLA offered.

So today, I received a strange email from FAFSA stating:

"Dear ****,

Your Correction to your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been processed and the data will be made available to the school(s) listed on your corrected FAFSA. The financial aid office at your school will contact you if additional information is required.

The Financial Aid Administrator (FAA) at your school has made corrections to your application. If you think you need to make additional corrections, please contact your FAA before doing so."

Today, I wanted to go continuing on submitting my financial aid offer, but the offer was MISSING from the UCLA's financial aid website....

The thing is, I haven't made any changes or corrections to my FAFSA. Also why would the school change/correct my FAFSA report and take out my financial aid???!!

Would this be a sign of receiving less grants?

Please help.

Thanks,

I have gotten that message a number of times - it seems that whenever the school accesses the FAFSA that message is generated.

However, I have no idea why your offer would be MISSING. I think you need to contact the financial aid office - perhaps it is just a clerical issue.

Good luck!

Most likely, the computer system automatically backs off all aid while a FAFSA correction is processing. If this is the case, it will be repackaged when the correction is received back at the school (up to a week or so). The reason this can happen is two-fold: 1) schools cannot pay out federal aid unless there is a valid EFC on file - while the FAFSA changes are processing there is no “valid” EFC - and backing off aid in the meantime assures that the school won’t make a mistake (UCLA processes a lot of files!); 2) an EFC change can result in different eligibility for aid than the original package contained - the aid is backed off & then can be computer-packaged all over again. I work at a large school & we don’t cancel the aid while a correction processes, but I can see benefits to doing it that way . Another possibility is that the school “hides” the award package while a correction is processing & then “un-hides” it when the correction is received back from the processor.

Remember, your aid is only estimated until the time it’s finalized by your aid office. If you were verified & changes were made, your aid can change. That info was on your initial award letter, I’m sure.
