I am currently a freshman at my university. However, I am having difficulty adjusting to the college lifestyle and being away from home due to my medical condition. I want to transfer for the Fall 2011 semester to my state school, which is near by my house. If I do not get accepted for sophomore standing, should I go to community college and work part time instead of being miserable at my current college? Which option do you recommend and why? Also, how do I tell my family that I want to attend community college if I am not accepted to my state school? ANy help would be much appreciated. Thanks

If you are very unhappy now, talk with your family about the situation. Perhaps it would be best for you to leave your current university at the end of this semester. If you want to take classes second semester, you could easily do that at the community college, while you are making a decision about whether to complete an AA there, or to apply for transfer for the fall to the public U.

Will attending community college affect my chances of being admitted to my state university? I really want to go there, but I don’t want my health to worsen by staying at my current college. Give some more advice. Thanks everyone

Your community college should have several formal articulation agreements with the state university. That means that if you complete a specific associates degree with a specific GPA at your CC, you are guaranteed admission directly into the third year of that program at the state U. Visit the websites of your community college and the state U, and search for “articulation agreement”. You should find direct links to this information. If you can’t find it on the website, pick up the phone, call the counseling office at the community college, and discuss your situation with them.

Wishing you all the best.

any more help is greatly appreciated
