Hi so I'm an incoming senior looking to apply to some schools. The problem I've found though is that it's a lot more fun to research and compile a list of schools to apply to than it is to actually start applying. I keep telling myself to actually start writing my essays, but I want to be 100% sure in my schools I'm applying to first. This leads me to tweak my list over and over and over. Anybody who went through the process, did your list change while you were applying? Did you have this same problem? And do you have any tips for how I can go about moving from the "College Search & Selection" subforum and into the "College Admissions" subforum"?

In case you're curious, my list is

Princeton
Stanford
Harvard
Duke
USC
Rice
Emory
UVA
UNC
William & Mary
Vanderbilt
GA Tech
UMDCP

I could see myself at all of these schools, so maybe I'll just try to stop looking and start applying.

Think of what it was like BEFORE the common app when every single one of those would have been handwritten or typed separately. No reason not to start now.

I’m also applying to schools this fall too, and what I’ve done is started filling out applications for my four favorite schools that I am in love with. I have about five others that I could see myself at, but I’m prioritizing writing my supplements, ect, for the first four schools over those. No harm in starting now with your top choice schools

One thing i’m not seeing in here (unless you have stellar scores/ECs) are safeties…though I don’t know what UMDCP is …if it makes you feel any better, my D is similarly frozen…she’s made it to page 2 of the Common App but feels overwhelmed with the essays, etc. ahead…and she hasn’t even started on those schools that have their own applications. Meanwhile, kids around her school are talking about how they’re already finished the 'final" drafts of all essays…oy, it’s good thing that we’re a family that thrives on stress…

@SouthernHope Yeah same some of my friends are way ahead of me. About half are just as clueless as I am though. By the way, UMDCP is the university of Maryland. I consider both it and GA tech to be safeties, academically and financially. It is overwhelming though you’re right
