<p>For students a couple of years older than me that would be a crucial distinction. Being registed in the Selective Service System meant you could be drafted at any time and sent to Viet Nam. If someone with strong political influence could somehow get you into the Army Reserves you could count on fulfilling your service obligation with no chance of being sent to war. Somebody in admissions might have had direct experience with this situation which created a lot or resentment 45 years ago so you should get it corrected as soon as possible.</p>
